TROPEA
Tropea, known as the “Pearl of the Tyrrhenian”, with its intricate alleys and its views and terraces on the sea, is one of the most enchanting places on the coast. Located 10 km from Capo Vaticano, it is rich in history and symbols of a glorious past. The cathedral, founded in the Norman period, still has two gothic portals of great charm and preserves inside the works of extraordinary value. “Magnificent” is too little to define the Benedictine Sanctuary of Santa Maria dell’isola, one of the most photographed places in Tropea. In fact, the Sanctuary stands on a rock right in front of the town and overlooks its clear sea.
PIZZO CALABRO
Pizzo Calabro, located on a tuff promontory, is, together with Tropea, the most important town on the coast. The city has a beautiful historic center, where you can visit the Castle Murat, a fifteenth-century building built by Ferdinand I of Aragon. By the sea, the small church of Piedigrotta, unique of its kind, is located inside a cave that opens into the rock full of shells, contains statues and frescoes that create an extraordinary play of chiaroscuro thanks to the light that filters from the outside. Pizzo Calabro is also known as the “city of ice cream”, or “city of truffles”. The Pizzo truffle is an ice cream dessert famous throughout Italy, made with a secret recipe. An exquisite sphere of ice cream, hazelnut or chocolate, covered with cocoa powder.
